Am I a Visitor?

What does it truly mean to dwell in God's presence rather than simply visit it? That question sits at the heart of a message that challenges us to examine the depth of our relationship with God. Drawing from Psalm 91:1, which speaks of those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High abiding under the shadow of the Almighty, we are invited to consider whether we are genuinely dwelling with God or merely dropping in when life gets difficult. There is a striking contrast between two figures from the Old Testament: Cain, who settled in the land of Nod, a Hebrew word meaning wandering, living as a restless fugitive outside of God's presence, and Abraham, who pitched his tent near the great trees of Mamre and built an altar to the Lord. That same location became a site of divine encounter, where angels appeared and the birth of Isaac was announced. The question for each of us is simple but sobering: where are we pitching our tent? The message reminds us that the promises found throughout Scripture are not attached to occasional visits with God but to the consistent, covenant relationship that comes through dwelling. Like the roots of a young tree that must dig deep into the soil before fruit ever appears on its branches, our spiritual fruitfulness grows in the hidden, consistent places of connection with God long before it becomes visible in our lives.
