Our culture gives us countless ways to define ourselves. We may find our identity in our careers, relationships, accomplishments, failures, appearance, finances, background, or even the opinions of others.
But what happens when those things change?
Where do we turn when our accomplishments aren't enough, our relationships disappoint us, or our past continues to speak louder than our future?
At All Nations Worship Center, we believe that one of the most important journeys a person can take is the journey of discovering their identity in Jesus Christ.

Discovering your identity in Christ begins by asking an important question:
Who Does Jesus Say You Are?
The world has a lot to say about who you are.
Your past may say one thing.
Your failures may say another.
Fear may tell you that you aren't enough.
Other people's opinions may try to define you.
But Jesus speaks a different word over your life.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus made several powerful statements about the identity and purpose of His followers. These statements help us understand not only what Jesus calls us to do, but who He says we are.
When we discover our identity in Christ, we begin to see ourselves differently because we begin to see ourselves through His eyes.
You Are the Salt of the Earth
Jesus said:
"You are the salt of the earth."
— Matthew 5:13
Jesus didn't say, "Try to become salt."
He said, "You are the salt of the earth."
Salt influences whatever it touches. It preserves, enhances, and brings out flavor.
In the same way, followers of Jesus are called to influence the world around them.
Your faith matters where you live.
Your faith matters where you work.
Your faith matters in your family.
Your faith matters in your community.
When you discover your identity in Christ, you realize that God has placed you somewhere for a reason. You don't have to wait until you become someone important to make a difference.
You already have influence.
The question is: How will you use it?
You Are the Light of the World
Jesus also said:
"You are the light of the world."
— Matthew 5:14
Light makes a difference because it pushes back darkness.
Jesus is the ultimate source of light, but He calls His followers to carry that light into the world.
There are people around us who are searching for hope.
People who are hurting.
People who are confused.
People who feel forgotten.
People who need to know that God has not abandoned them.
When we live out our identity in Christ, we become visible expressions of His love, grace, truth, and hope.
You don't have to be a pastor to shine.
You don't have to stand behind a pulpit.
You don't need a platform or a title.
You simply need to allow the light of Jesus to shine through your life.
You are the light of the world.
You Are a City Set on a Hill
Jesus continued:
"A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."
— Matthew 5:14
A city on a hill is visible.
It can be seen from a distance.
It stands out.
Jesus reminds us that our identity in Him is not something we are meant to hide.
Following Jesus should make a difference in the way we live.
Our identity should influence our decisions, our relationships, our priorities, and the way we treat people.
This doesn't mean we seek attention for ourselves.
Instead, we live in such a way that people can see something different in us—the character and love of Jesus.
When Christ changes your life, His work in you becomes visible.
You are a city set on a hill.
Your life matters.
Your example matters.
Your testimony matters.
You Are My Friends
One of the most beautiful things Jesus said to His disciples was:
"I have called you friends."
— John 15:15
Think about the significance of that statement.
The God who created the universe invites us into relationship with Him.
Christianity is not simply about religious activity.
It is not about checking boxes.
It is not about trying harder to earn God's approval.
At the center of our faith is a relationship with Jesus.
Jesus calls His followers friends.
This is at the heart of discovering your identity in Christ. Before you are a worker, leader, parent, spouse, employee, student, volunteer, or anything else, you are invited to know Jesus.
Your identity begins with relationship.
You Are the Branches
Jesus gives us another powerful picture in John 15:
"I am the vine; you are the branches."
— John 15:5
A branch cannot produce life on its own.
It must remain connected to the vine.
Jesus is the Vine.
We are the branches.
This reminds us that discovering our identity in Christ is not about becoming independent from God. It is about learning to remain connected to Him.
When we abide in Christ, we receive what we need to live fruitful lives.
Our strength comes from Him.
Our hope comes from Him.
Our ability to love comes from Him.
Our ability to endure comes from Him.
Our spiritual growth comes from Him.
We don't have to manufacture a new identity for ourselves.
We discover who we are by remaining connected to the One who created us and redeemed us.
You Are Not Defined by This World
Jesus told His disciples:
"You are not of the world."
— John 15:19
This doesn't mean that Christians should withdraw from the world or stop caring about the people around them.
Quite the opposite.
Jesus sends us into the world with His love and His message.
But we are not supposed to let the world define us.
The world does not get the final word about who you are.
Your past does not get the final word.
Your mistakes do not get the final word.
Your failures do not get the final word.
Other people's opinions do not get the final word.
Jesus does.
When you discover your identity in Christ, you begin to understand that your worth is not based on what you have accomplished or what you have failed to accomplish.
Your identity is rooted in Him.
You Are Witnesses
After His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples:
"You are witnesses of these things."
— Luke 24:48
A witness is someone who has experienced something and has a story to tell.
The disciples had encountered Jesus.
They had witnessed His life.
They had seen His death.
They had experienced His resurrection.
Now they were called to tell others what they had seen.
The same is true for us.
When Jesus changes your life, your story matters.
Your testimony matters.
You don't have to have all the answers.
You don't have to know every verse in the Bible.
You simply have to be willing to tell people what Jesus has done in your life.
You can say:
This is who I was.
This is what Jesus has done.
This is who I am becoming because of Him.
Discovering your identity in Christ isn't just about knowing who you are.
It is about becoming a witness to who Jesus is.
See Yourself the Way Jesus Sees You
There are many voices competing to define you.
The world says, "You are what you have."
Your past says, "You are what happened to you."
Failure says, "You are what you did."
Fear says, "You are what you cannot do."
But Jesus says something different.
You are salt.
You are light.
You are a city set on a hill.
You are My friend.
You are a branch connected to Me.
You are not defined by this world.
You are My witness.

We don't begin with what we can do for God.
We begin with who we are in Him.
